Norm Zulps - General Manager

Norm Zulps

General Manager
I started out on a Honda Z50 at a very young age with my two brothers, and have enjoyed riding motorcycles and ATV’s ever since. I obtained my motorcycle license and first street bike at 18, and have been riding on and off ever since. My career experience has been largely in Automotive Dealer Management positions, though I spent several years in Construction Management as well. I was offered the fantastic opportunity of the GM position here at VI Honda which drew myself and family from Kelowna to the Island. Having grown up in North Vancouver, coming back to the coast feels like coming home. I am looking forward to exploring the beautiful areas and roads of the island on two wheels, and to help our customers with all of their Power Sports and Power Equipment needs.

I have been riding since I was 10 years old and have only armor all'd the seat once. I have been involved in the customer service industry since I graduated and started selling motorcycles in 2001. The first bike I purchased was a 750cc Honda Interceptor - I have owned mostly sport bikes but now enjoy day trips on the Gold Wing. I also enjoy the water. In the past I competed in stand-up jet ski and now I love spending the day on the boat with the family.

Pretty much since the day I could walk, I have been on an ATV. I was born and raised on Northern Vancouver Island and love anything to do with the outdoors. From our home in the North Island we were able to ride our ATV’s right from our garage onto the backroads and have endless options of where we wanted to go for a ride that day! Honda has always been a staple in my family’s home whether it was an older FourTrax or a Rubicon 500, a Pioneer side by side, and even our generators and other power equipment. I got my Motorcycle licence shortly after I started working at VI Honda, opening up a whole other world of opportunities to go out and explore new roads. I enjoy sharing my passion with all our customers and hearing all the great stories and personal experiences they’ve had whether its on a bike, ATV, or side by side!

I started my career in accounting at Hub City Fisheries and later moved on to customer service at Moores. I believe my current position here is ideal for me because it allows me to help customers with their financing needs and to also keep our books in check. Personally, I never thought of myself as someone who would take an interest in riding, until I started working here. Who can turn down riding when you're surrounded by such beautiful bikes each day? Definitely not this guy! In that respect, I immediately got my license and started riding with no regrets. Ever since then I have met a lot of wonderful customers and have been able to relate to all of them.

I started as a customer of VI Honda and worked my way up to Sales Associate in 2016. I'm a die-hard Honda fan and defied all sensibility by riding my 1983 Honda CM250 across the country, down the eastern seaboard and back. If that doesn't prove the durability of the brand, I don't know what can! I love being surrounded by bikes, working with our awesome team and learning from customers.

My love for motorcycles began on the dirt, first getting my own full size bike at 15. After a few years I got myself a dual sport/supermoto and loved the convenience of riding where ever, whenever. Riding supermotos' I gained a love for twisting asphalt and travelling, which eventually lead me to get my current Superbike. Right out of highschool I took VIU's Motorcycle and Marine Technician program, though it took a few years before I decided to work in the industry, I have always enjoyed maintaining, modifying and of course riding bikes. My favourite thing about powersports is the shared passion and connection of all those who ride.

Even though I have been selling Honda Parts since 1971, I am not that old. No one is that old! [Jerry enjoys coming to work everyday and takes pride in doing his job well. There is more to him than meets the eye and you can bet he will make sure that you get looked after!]

I may be the youngest on the team, however bikes of all kinds are in my blood. I am currently going to Vancouver Island University for computer sciences and I believe that there is no better place I could be working right now. I have been on two wheels for my entire life and nothing makes me happier than helping others enjoy their bikes as well. When I'm not sleeping, I'm riding a bike and I am currently in the process of getting my motorcycle license.

I started riding gas powered 2 wheel vehicles way back in the late 60's - lawn mower engine powered modified Fox mini trail bikes and got my first street legal bike back in the mid 70's. I started working in the motorcycle industry on the Lower Mainland in 1980. Since then I have worked and managed all departments in a motorsport shop including the general manger position. Through the late 80's until the early 90's I was heavily involved in managing a number of road racers & road race teams. Over the years I have ridden all sizes and styles of motorcycles, mostly large street, some dual sport, off road, and ATVs. I moved to the Island from the Lower Mainland 10 years ago and don’t plan on going back.

I got into riding motorcycles at 6 years old. My first motorcycle was a 1979 49cc Honda Mini Trail, though I have also owned many motorcycles, ATV’s and snowmobiles over the years. My start into the motorcycle industry was when I was 20 years old. I knew I wanted to work with what I enjoyed the most, and no better way than repairing, maintaining and riding motorcycles for a living! I’ve been a motorcycle mechanic since 2006, and have enjoyed every minute of it. I’ve raced on dirt, sport-bike road courses and drag strips. I’m grateful to be a part of the VI Honda Team, and making the move from Edmonton to Vancouver Island was best decision I have ever made. Always fun and enjoyable at VI Honda.

Technician
John has been riding motorcycles since 2006. He started out riding dirt bikes, and shortly after realized he liked working on bikes almost as much as he did riding them. John went to school and found employment at a shop in North Vancouver, which eventually led to him to pursuing his apprenticeship here at VI Honda. He enjoys riding tight single track or Enduro style riding.

I have been around and on bikes all my life. There is a picture somewhere of me at 6 years old on my dad's 250 Montesa MX bike. After a brief flirtation with muscle cars during high school I returned to two wheels and have been there ever since. Bikes are my passion and working with the team at VI allows me to live it.
